THE CITY OF OVIEDO
Oviedo has been recognised recently as one of the Spanish cities with best quality of life. It offers the benevolence and safety of Northern Spain small towns with all the amenities and attractions of the nation’s bigger destinations. With over 25,000 university students making up the city’s total population of around 226,000 inhabitants, Oviedo is a vibrant city with youthful energy and lively night life. For the cultural aspect, its origins date back to the 8th centry. It has an impressive Historic Heritage, from its World Heritage Pre-Romanesque art to the 18th Century old town centre with its cobbled streets lined with beautifully restored palaces, picturesque squares, the Gothic Cathedral of San Salvador, the 17th-century University Building and a wide diversity of statues, churches and museums. Since 1981 every October The Campoamor Theatre hosts The Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony, internationally considered as one of the most important cultural events and recognised by UNESCO as cultural world heritage.
THE PRINCIPALITY OF ASTURIAS
The Principality of Asturias is situated in the centre of the Spanish Northern Coast. To enjoy the incomparable landscapes, excitement and attractiveness of Asturias, our students can travel the mere 25 km to the Cantabric Coast to stroll and sunbathe on its golden sand beaches, in the neighbouring towns of Gijón, Salinas and Colunga; discover the impressive variety of picturesque villages, Cudillero, Lastres, Llanes, Luarca; coves and cliff tops, Cabo Peñas, Faro Vidio and Llanes municipality. Alternatively they can delight in the captivating surroundings of the National Park of Picos de Europa or in one of the five Natural Parks of Somiedo, Redes, Ponga, Las Ubiñas and Fuentes del Narcea. Asturias is favoured with mild climate and temperatures all the year round; ideal for practising a wide variety of open-air sports – trekking, climbing, horse riding, sailing, surfing and canoeing. For skiers in winter, Asturias boasts 3 resorts, Valgrande-Pajares, Fuentes de Invierno and San Isidro.
HOW TO GET TO OVIEDO
By bus or train: our school is only a few minutes on foot from the Oviedo train and bus stations, which offer a wide range of trips between Oviedo and other capitals in Spain and Europe. By plane: Asturias Airport, with daily flights to Barcelona and Madrid and regular scheduled flights to other Spanish towns such as Málaga, Tenerife, Palma de Mallorca, etc. and European cities such as London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, etc., is 47 km away and perfectly connected with the city centre by a public bus. A transfer service to and from Asturias or other Spanish airports can be arranged for our students. Please, ask the school for quote.
